PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a communication supporting device which is capable of understanding a symbol string and also is capable of easily transferring will from a language normal person who is not skilled in communication by symbols to a language disabled person or a language disabled infant who is learning symbols. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a symbol dictionary 1 storing symbols of pictorial characters and pictorial words or the like and plural words meant by the symbols, a symbol selection part 4 outputting the selected symbol string selected by a user 1 from the symbol dictionary 1, a symbol string-to-word candidate string translating part 7 outputting a word candidate string expressing the meaning of a symbol string and the symbol to a user 2 by referring the dictionary based on the selected symbol string and a symbol string generating part 13 which outputs the string of typical words meant by the symbol string and the symbol or the message of the effect that there is no symbol equivalent to an input word to user 2 and outputs on output symbol string to the user 1 when an output instruction is inputted from the user 2 to the device. Thus, it becomes more easy that the user 2 guesses the will which is wanted to be transferred to him or her by the user 1.
