PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce time and effort required for maintenance, etc., by exerting control so that the blade end of a scraping blade is brought into contact with the surface of a drum or it is separated from the surface of the drum. SOLUTION: In a cleaning blade 2, its one end is a blade end 2a having an acute angle, and the blade end 2a is brought into in pressure contact with the surface of a drum 1 at an acute angle in a direction opposite to the direction B of the driving of the drum 1 and scrapes toner sticking to the surface of the drum 1. The cleaning blade 2 is connected to a blade control part 3 controlled by a control part 5 and is driven by the blade control part 3, and its position is alterable. A printing-operation detection part 4 outputs a printing detection signal at the time of the printing operation of the print engine part of a printer. Based on the printing detection signal, the control part 5 instructs the blade control part 3 to drive the cleaning blade 2, and controls the position of the cleaning blade 2. That is, it separates the cleaning blade 2 from the drum 1 during idling, etc., and brings the cleaning blade 2 in pressure contact with the drum 1 only during the printing operation.
