The sealing coating comprises clear granules embedded in the surface of an asphalt sealing layer (6) containing a high melting wax and an elastomer. A sealing coating comprises a self-protection layer (7) of clear granules embedded in the top surface of a sealing layer (6) of a cast asphalt product comprising a natural or petroleum bitumen based organic binder which contains a hydrocarbon wax of greater than 85 deg C melting point (as measured according to the ASTM D3954 and ASTM D3418 standards) and an elastomer. An Independent claim is also included for production of the above sealing coating by pouring the sealing layer (6) and uniformly spraying, especially by mechanized spraying, clear granules (7) onto the layer before it cools and solidifies. Preferred Features: The clear granules are natural mineral granules, especially non-porous white silica sand, of 0.8-2 mm particle size applied in an amount of /-1 kg per m<2> of coating surface. The sealing layer (6) is 10-20 (especially 15) mm thick and contains /-10% organic binder and/or /-25% fines, the binder containing 0.3-1 (especially 0.5)% of the wax and 0.3-1.5 (especially 1)% of the elastomer. The coating may also comprise a separation screen (5), especially a glass film or a composite of glass mesh/polyester films, between the sealing layer and the roof thermal insulation (3) and a heat shield (4), especially a /}20 mm thick high density (170-220 kg/m<3>) rigid panel of rock wool or perlite-based fibrous material, between the separation screen (5) and the thermal insulation (3).
