PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To replace an ink cartridge at a proper time in response to a degree of consumption of each color by surely printing out received image data while suppressing frequency of occurrence when black ink is vacant. SOLUTION: In a facsimile machine adopting an ink jet method where a 4-color cartridge consisting of CMYK 4-colors or a 6-color cartridge more than 4-colors is selected, a CPU detects which of the 4-color or the 6-color cartridge can be used (S3), and when the 4-color cartridge is detected (S3: YES), the CPU starts print out on the basis of the received image data (S6). When the 6-color cartridge is detected (S3: NO), the CPU stores the received image data to a memory without starting printing (S7).
