PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately measure an acoustic impedance of a biological specimen or the like. SOLUTION: In this device, an ultrasonic burst generated from an ultrasonic transducer (a PZT) 106 is applied to a specimen 112 through a transmission line 108, a matching liquid 110, and an impedance converter 114 provided in close contact with the specimen 12. The impedance converter 114 preferably has a thickness of an odd multiple of the 1/4 wavelength of the applied ultrasonic wave.
