PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium capable of excellently recording and reproducing data with laser light beams in a specified wavelength range by incorporating a compd. having benzoxazole rings or benzothiazole rings into a recording layer on a substrate. SOLUTION: A compd. expressed by formula I is incorporated into the recording layer of an optical recording medium having at least a recording layer and a reflection layer on a substrate so that the obtd. write-once optical recording medium enables recording and reproducing with laser light of the wavelength selected form a 400 to 500 nm range. The compd. of formula I is obtd. by the reaction of a compd. expressed by formula II and a compd. expressed by formula III with hydrochloric acid or the like as a catalyst. In formula I, each of R1 to R8 is H, a halogen atom, <=20C alkyl group, alkoxy group, alkylthio group, aryloxy group, arylthio group, alkenyl group, aralkyl group, acyl group, aryl group, heteroaryl group or alkylsulfonate group; and each of X1 and X2 is O or S. |
