PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp capable of excellently functioning by widening an auxiliary amalgam area without causing any deficiency, even if the outer diameter of a bulb is small and a distance between two wires is narrow. SOLUTION: A flat auxiliary amalgam 27 with one end side fixed to one wire 24 is bent between wires 24, 25 and each surface obtained by that bending has a bent shape facing an imaginary plane linking between the wires 24, 25. Therefore, even if the outer diameter of a bulb 22 is small and the distance between the wires 24, 25 is narrow, the auxiliary amalgam 27 is not brought into contact with another wire 25, and its surface area can be made as wide as possible with the inner surface of the bulb 22 untouched by it. Thereby, the function of the auxiliary amalgam 27 is sufficiently brought into full play.
