PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device in which dust or the like is prevented from sticking to an electro-optical device by hermetically sealing an optical path from the electro-optical device to a projection lens and also which can be miniaturized. SOLUTION: The projection type display device provided with the electro- optical device forming a picture of a luminous flux emitted by a light source in accordance with picture information has a hermetically sealing structure constituted by incorporating a structure body 903 provided with an electro- optical device placing part 903B placing the electro-optical device and a projection lens attaching part 903A attaching the projection lens and a hermetically sealing member 80 attached to the device 903B and hermetically sealing the optical path from the electro-optical device to the projection lens. The dust at outside is prevented from being stuck to the electro-optical device by the hermetically sealing structure, and the hermetically sealing structure is constituted by using the device 903B, so that the miniaturization of the hermetically sealing structure, accordingly, the miniaturization of the projection type display device is attained.
