PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of realizing a high quality image display. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device 1 includes a liquid crystal panel 3, a display signal control part 7, a light source control part 6, a light source drive part 5 and a light source 4. A modulation circuit incorporated in the light source control part 6 outputs a pulse signal according to a synchronizing signal (vertical or horizontal) supplied from the display signal control part 7. A comparison circuit incorporated in the light source control part 7 compares the pulse signal with a backlight current of a power source. The current value of the power source is changed based on the comparison result. Thus, since the backlight current is changed steeply synchronously with the synchronizing signal, the response of an optical system is sharpened.
