PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a portable telephone set that is provided with a luminescent function by which presence of a user at a dark state can easily be recognized by a driver of an automobile or the like. SOLUTION: The portable telephone set 100 consists of an incoming call notice section 1, a display section 2, an operation section 3, a transmission/ reception antenna 4, a transmission/reception section 5, a microphone section 6, a speaker section 7, a control section 8, an incoming call notice section lighting device 11, a display section lighting device 12, and an operation section lighting device 13. When a user uses the operation section 8 to enter a luminescence start instruction, the incoming call notice section lighting device 11, the display section lighting device 12, and the operation section lighting device 13 are used to light up the incoming call notice section 1, the display section 2 and the operation section 3 and when a luminescence end instruction is entered, the luminescence is finished. Thus, when a user walks at night or in the dark, the user carries the portable telephone set that is lighted at its waist or the like so as to allow a driver of an automobile to early recognize the presence of the user thereby reducing dangers such as traffic accidents.
