Mounting elements to secure pair of bracing rods on either side of and parallel to spine

A spinal support rod (14) is secured between the flanks (5,6) of a mounting element (1,21) by a bolt (9). The bolt does not impede insertion of the rod. Access to it is from the side away from the spine Two versions (1,21) of the mounting are illustrated. One (1) has a screw thread (2) to secure between vertebrae; the other (21) uses hooks (24,28). Both have U-shaped openings (8) into which a spherical element (11) fits. The rod (14) passes through the sphere. Tightening the locking bolt (9) closes a split (13) in the sphere (11) to lock the rod (14) in position.
