PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the image read signal components of an image reader, to raise an S/N and to provide the image data of high quality by individually setting an exposure value adjusted corresponding to the characteristics of the intrinsic output value of an individual CCD. SOLUTION: The exposure amount to be supplied to the CCD loaded on the image reader B01 is individually changed and the characteristics of the output value intrinsic to the individual CCD are detected. Then, the exposure value adjusted corresponding to the characteristics of the intrinsic output value of the individual CCD is individually set. The image reader B01 is provided with an arithmetic control part B10 for controlling a reads part B11. Then, a control program for controlling the image reader B01 is stored in a memory part B16 through a computer readable recording medium and called by the arithmetic control part B10 when needed.
