PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the effect of discharge as much as possible even when the discharge is interrupted at a discharge start time or after the discharge is started. SOLUTION: In an optical fiber fusion splicing device provided with an inverter device 12 applying an AC voltage of a frequency f1 suited to a high frequency discharge at a stationary time to a pair of discharge electrodes 18 and a DC high voltage generating device 16 rectifying the output of the inverter device 12, storing it in a capacitor 14 and superimposing a DC high voltage required for starting the discharge on the AC voltage of the inverter device 12 and applying it between the electrodes 18, a frequency switcher switching the frequency of the output of the inverter device 12 to the frequency f1 at the stationary time and the frequency f2 higher than it and detection means 20, 42 detecting whether or not the discharge between the electrodes 18 is started are provided. Until the discharge is started, the frequency of the output of the inverter device 12 is made the frequency f2 higher than that at the stationary time, and the voltage is raised, and after the discharge is started, the frequency of the output of the inverter device 12 is switched to the frequency f1 at the stationary time. |
