PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile machine and its control method by which reception is conducted independently of capability of decode processing even when high speed transmissions by the V.34 is conducted by using a coding form promising a high compression effect such as the JBIG in a system where software is employed for decode processing. SOLUTION: Data are received, the number of frames of the data able to be decoded per unit time is calculated while decoding the received data on the basis of the result of decoding part of the received data and whether or not remaining data not decode-pressed can be decoded within a prescribed limit time is predicted (S3). When predicted that the decode processing of the remaining data is impossible within the limit time, re-transmission of the data is requested (S6).
