PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a rotary electric machine compact and reduce the cost by providing a stacked layer of an insulating layer made by attaching inorganic insulations with thermosetting resin and an insulating layer made by diffusing a high temperature conducting filler in the cross insulation and then hardening and setting a product of the initial insulation breakdown voltage and a thermal conductivity within a specified range. SOLUTION: A stator coil 3 consists of a coil conductor 29 constituted of an arrangement of insulated element wires and a main insulation 30 applied to the coil conductor 29. The main insulation 30 is an insulation wound around the coil conductor 29 and is impregnated with resin and is heat-cured. The insulation is a stacked body of a mica layer, a base layer, and a resin layer. The mica layer has a mica foil. The base layer is interwoven with glass fiber. The resin layer is made of such resin as to be impregnated into the mica layer and the base layer and then be hardened, and is filled or mixed with a filler. An amount of the insulator to be filled or mixed in is so controlled that a product of the main insulation breakdown voltage and a thermal conductivity of the stator coil may be between 7 and 20 (MVW/m2.K). Thereby, the machine size and cost can be reduced.
