A spool type valve (48) and a sleeve (45) are connected to an input shaft (17) and provided between the input shaft and a master cylinder piston (21) to switch the connection of a boosting chamber (32) and a reservoir (8). A stroke shortening unit controls the relative position of the sleeve and the master cylinder piston such that the sleeve is movably comprised in the master cylinder piston. A boosting unit (11) performs the boosting of the hydraulic pressure of a master cylinder (3) when a brake pedal is operated. The boosting unit includes the boosting chamber provided to the rear side of the master cylinder piston and connected to a pump (65). The operation of the brake pedal is interlocked with the operation of the input shaft whose front side corresponds to the boosting chamber.
