PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a tandem type scanning optical device that the write starting timing of respective scanning optical systems can be uniformized even when a sensor substrate on which a monitor sensor is fixed is deformed by temperature change. SOLUTION: The monitor sensor 142 is fixed to one side of the rectangular plate-like sensor substrate 143 in the longitudinal direction. The substrate 143 is fixed to an upper housing 10 by screws 145a and 145b. The sensor 142 is arranged on this side in a scanning direction and a fixing part consisting of the screws 145a and 145b is arranged at the back side. In the 2nd to the 4th scanning optical systems, the sensor 142 is similarly fixed to the housing through the sensor substrate by the above mentioned identical constitution. The arranging order of the sensor 142 and the fixing part in the scanning direction of monitor light and a distance between the fixing part and the sensor are identically set to those of the 1st scanning optical system.
