PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the electrophotographic photoreceptor having both of high mechanical strength and superior lubricitv always from the start to the end of repeated uses for a long period by incorporating a specified polyarylate and a specified polycarbonate in the surface layer of the photoreceptor. SOLUTION: The surface layer of the electrophotographic photoreceptor contains the polyarylate having structural units represented by formula I and the polycarbonate having structural units represented by formula II, and the viscosity average molecular weight of the polyarylate (Ma) and that of the polycarbonate (Nc) satisfy the flllowing expressions; Mc <10,000 and Ma >=3 Mc. In formulae I and II, X is a carbon atom or a single bond (in this case, R5 and R6 are absent); each of R1-R10 is an H or halogen atom or an alkyl or aryl group or the like; X2 is a carbon atom or a single bond (in this case, R15 and R16 are absent); and each of R11-R16 is an H or halogen atom or an alkyl or aryl group or the like.
