chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is new chemical compound, particularly, copolymer of 1,2- dimethyl-5-vinyl pyridinium methyl sulfate, N- vinylpyrrolidone and acrylamide. Said compound is useful as cationic flocculant for accelerating processes of thickening and filtering suspensions, purifying industrial circulating and stagnant water. Cationic flocculant for treating circulating and stagnant water is new compound, namely copolymer of 1,2 dimethyl-5- vinylpyridinium methyl sulfate, N-vinylpyrrolidone and acrylamide of general formula: wherein n is 90 mole %, m is 5-9 mole % and p is 1-5 mole % with characteristic viscosity of 1.3-1.8 dl/g in 2 N NaCl solution at 30 C.
