GAS DIFFUSION STRUCTURE PERPENDICULAR TO THE MEMBRANE OF POLYMER-ELECTROLYTE MEMBRANE FUEL CELLS

With the gas diffusion structure, a gradient is produced in gas permeability perpendicular to the membrane (6) by a stratified system (3, 4). This guarantees constant and optimal humidification in all points of the membrane by the formed product water at appropriate operating temperature and appropriate stoichiometry of the reactants. Additional humidification systems can thus be discarded.
