In fibrillation of bast fibers by separating the natural binder in a reactor by the emulsifying action of surfactants in weakly alkaline medium, emulsification is carried out at 70-200, preferably 95-120 deg C with a surface active condensation product of microbial biomass and natural oils/fats, in accordance with EP-PS 0671973.
