PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain high sensitivity in a color negative film while maintaining minimum graininess, acceptable pressure desensitization and sufficient acutance. SOLUTION: The multicolor photographic element has photosensitive layers at least one of which contains a flat, plate-like grain silver halide emulsion having at least 95% bromide content and <5% iodide content and also contains an electron donative compound of the formula X-Y' which can be fragmented. The iodide has been substantially uniformly distributed in the silver halide grains. In the formula, X is an electron donor part and Y' is a releasable proton H or a releasable group Y. (1) The X-Y' has an oxidation potential between 0 and 1.4 V, (2) the oxidized form of an X-Y' fragment provides a radical X. and a released fragment Y' and, optionally, (3) the radical X. has an oxidation potential of <=-0.7 V.
