An assembly of adjacent parallel conduits (30,32) separated by porous filtration walls (28) is between an inlet face (24) and an outlet face (26). The cross sections of the inlet and outlet chambers are constant along their length and the total cross section of the inlet chambers is greater than that of the outlet chambers. The cross section of each inlet chamber is greater than that of each outlet chamber. Alternatively, the inlet and outlet chambers have non- square rectangular sections and are arranged in fives, or the inlet chambers are octagonal and the outlet chambers are rectangular and contiguous with four inlet chambers. In this arrangement, each inlet chamber is contiguous with four inlet and four outlet chambers placed alternately along each of the eight sides. The section of the inlet chambers progressively decreases towards the outlet face and the section of the outlet chambers progressively increases towards the outlet face. The section of the open ends of the inlet chambers at the inlet face is greater than that of the open ends of the outlet chambers at the outlet face. An Independent claim is also included for a pollution removal device incorporating an exhaust pipe containing a particle filter as above. |
