The invention relates to a method for the qualitative and/or quantitative detection of an analyte in a sample using an analytical reagent containing a RNA replicon or a DNA sequence coding for such a sequence. According to said method the analyte is detected by amplification of the RNA replicon using a DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and subsequent detection of the amplification products. The invention also relates to a nucleic acid which codes for an analytical reagent provided for in the invention and to a test kit for carrying out the above method.
