A method and apparatus for detecting in a sample (18) a substance which responds to an applied magnetic field, such as a paramagnetic substance. The sample is placed in an applied magnetic field, and the effect of the sample on a performance characteristic such as resonance frequency of an electrical conductor (12) is correlated to the presence of quantitative determination.
