A short arc high-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp in which a pair of electrodes are provided in an arc tube and mercury and a rare gas are sealed in the arc tube, wherein the lamp current is about, e.g., 1.5 A or more, or the ratio (lamp voltage)/(lamp current) is about 37.5 [V/A] or less. Further the distance between the electrodes are so determined that the rated power per unit arc length P/d is 88 [W/mm] or more, and the bulb wall loading Pw (rated power P/inner surface area of the arc tube) is 1.0 [W/mm2] or less. Thus a lamp which operates at a relative low voltage with a large lamp power of, e.g., 125 W or more and has a short arc length and a large luminous flux per unit arc length is provided, and the arc tube of which hardly ruptures is realized.
|
