The checkout desk includes a cash register (7) for charging for purchased goods situated in carrying containers. The filled containers are carried by a conveyor (3) to the cash register. The conveyor has a section (5) which is inclined towards the cash register. This section may be stationary, height- or angle-adjustable, or part of a conveyor belt (4) belonging to the conveyor (3). A contact device (6) is provided at the end of the conveyor, and responds to an impact by a carrying container.
