The bearing arrangement consists of a squeeze-film bearing and a pneumatic bearing. One half of the bearing is constructed as an oscillating surface (3) with an oscillating mechanism. A column of compressed air between the bearing halves generates the bearing power. The bearing half has spiral or v-shaped slots (15a -15d) for the passage of air which generate additional pressure in the column of air. An Independent claim is included for a method of driving the bearing system.
