The invention relates to an electric motor comprising a commutator and lever-type carbon brushes which are elastically pressed against said commutator and pivot about a pivot axis. A connecting line which is perpendicular to the pivot axis and extends between the centre point of a carbon brush contact surface and said pivot axis tangentially contacts the outside of the commutator. The aim of the invention is to reduce the size of such a carbon brush unit. To this end each lever-type carbon brush comprises a bearing bush which is mounted such that it is able to rotate coaxially in relation to the pivot axis and a moulded part which is made of a conductive material and fixedly joined to the bearing bush. The moulded part forms the carbon brush contact surface and presents a connecting point which is in direct electrical contact with the carbon brush contact surface and serves to electrically connect the carbon brush. The bearing bush is made of a more durable material than the moulded part.
