The present invention relates to a constant velocity universal joint comprising two shafts (1, 2) each having a claw (3, 4, 17, 18) located on one end and a central control mechanism (5) rotatably mounted between the claws (3, 4, 17, 18). The central control mechanism (5) comprises first and second cooperating hinge elements (6, 7), a cage (8) within which the first and second hinge elements can slide in the direction of the hinge axis (H) and at leasst one guide element (9, 10) for each claw (3, 4, 17, 18) connecting the respective claw to the cage (8) in such a manner as to ensure that each shaft (1, 2) rotates about the geometrical centre of the joint by an equal amount but in the opposite direction of rotation.
