The invention relates to a financial transaction system and to a method for conducting cashless financial transactions with a mobile station (MS1) of a mobile subscriber (MT1) of a mobile radio network (TELE1). An accounting center (AB) stores the mobile subscriber identifications (MTi-ID), payee station identifications (ZST1-ID) and credit standing data (BDATi) of the mobile subscriber (MT1). An authorization process is carried out between the mobile station (MS1) and the payee station (ZST1) via the mobile radio network (TELE1). The accounting center (AB) authorizes the remittance of money between an account of the mobile subscriber (MT1) and the account of the payee station (ZST1) if the authorization process had the result that the account of the mobile subscriber (MT1) can be debited with a predetermined amount of money and that the mobile subscriber (MT1) and the payee station (ZST1) are both authorized subscribers. The financial transaction system according to the invention makes it possible to authorize electronic remittances via the mobile radio network. However, no electronic money is actually transmitted via the mobile radio network.
