An insert for a pot in which foods, especially sausages, are cooked in water, comprises a plate (10) made of a water resistant material, and a grab element (14) on the top (12) of the insert. The specific weight of the insert is slightly less than that of water. The insert material is preferably polyethylene, especially a low density polyethylene.
