PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to easily produce an optical fiber preform having little bending and having a specified diameter. SOLUTION: In this method for producing an optical fiber preform, the preform 1 such as a quartz glass rod is preliminarily heated while tension is applied in the longitudinal direction of the preform 1 and then the preliminarily heated preform 1 is stretched in the longitudinal direction. In this method, a heating furnace 11 to preliminarily heat the preform 1 is disposed between a release chuck 15 and a drawing chuck 17 which hold the preform 1, and the preform 1 is preferably heated while the preform 1 is inserted in the heating furnace 11. |
