PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hold a vibrator on a tool rest with high strength and high regidity to improving the cutting characteristic by holding the node parts of the vibration along the circumferential direction of a vibrator on at least a plurality of positions axially separated from one another, of the vibrator in a linearly contact state. SOLUTION: The holding tools 151, 152 of a swivel base 142 holds the node parts of the vibration on two positions axially separated from one another of an ultrasonic vibration body 114 in a linearly contact state along the circumferential direction of the vibration body 114, and the holding attitude of the vibration body 114 is variable by the rotation in the circumferential direction of the vibration body 114. By holding the node parts of the vibration of the torsionally vibrating vibration body 114, the vibration transmitting efficiency is increased to apply high vibrating energy to a cutter 115 without giving the bad influence to the vibrating characteristic of a vibrating system from a vibrator 121 of the vibration body 114 to the cutter 115, and the cutting work efficiency can be improved.
