PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distortion-free image using light without depending on capacitance and to provide a relatively thin, small and low-cost device. SOLUTION: A two-dimensional image sensor 11 is provided wherein a fingertip is placed near the light receiving surface 1A of each photo 1 during the input of a fingerprint. Of the photo, the photo whose light receiving surface 1A is in proximity to a ridge line portion 4 detects as the ridge line portion 4 a bright region where scattered light from within a finger 2 reaches readily via the ridge line portion 4, and another photo whose light receiving surface 1A is in proximity to a valley portion 5 detects as the valley portion 5 a dark region where little scattered light from within the finger 2 reaches.
