PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine in which a crankshaft axis is arranged vertically to reduce the breadth as much as possible. SOLUTION: An engine 13 is provided with multiple numbers of cylinders installed vertically, a cylinder block 32 in which a cylinder is formed, a cylinder head covering the combustion chamber of the cylinder, and a crankshaft to be turned by a piston, of which axis is arranged vertically. In the cylinder head, an inlet passage 41 and an exhaust passage 42 of which points are opened to the combustion chamber, are formed for the combustion chamber of each cylinder. Each exhaust passage is connected to a collective exhaust passage 71 extending downward to exhaust. A part of the inlet pipe to be connected to the inlet passage is arranged above the collective exhaust passage and in piled state on the plane.
