PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a repellent which can repel rats, shows odorless and nonvolatile properties, is inexpensive, is safe to human bodies, permits the extermination of rats by just scattering powers and is usable indoors without anxiety by including a specific powdery mineral as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This repellent for rat is obtained by including bentonite, talc, clay, diatomaceous earth, white carbon, amorphous silicon dioxide, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, perlite or their powdery mineral foams, suitably diatomaceous earth, talc or white carbon, particularly diatomaceous earth, as an active ingredient. Further, for example, it is favorable to use the above active ingredient in an amount of about 2-100 g/m2, a resin powder or the like, e.g. vinyl chloride or the like, and acrylic acid or the like as a carrier and a surfactant, respectively, in addition to the above active ingredient and a repellent in an amount of about 5-100 mg/m2.
