PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid unnecessary automatic control of a head rest, and avoid automatic control of the head rest, if positional data is inaccurate, while utilizing the advantage of automatic control of the head rest. SOLUTION: An electrically operated seat which has automatic control means 10, 9a, 9b for automatically driving a head rest 3 up and down to a proper level corresponding to a sliding position is prohibited from automatic control when up-and-down drive corresponds to the input of a switch, registered attitude is set, a seatback is at an over-inclination, a prohibitation/permission switch SE is indicative of prohibitation and none is seated. Then, the head rest is automatically controlled when a slide driving amount is a preset value or more, a slide driving time is a preset time or more, a door is open, the seatback rises, the switch SE is indicative of permission and one is seated. The sliding position and the level of head rest are written in a non-volatile memory 17 so as to be read out during power-on. At starting drive, the drive is written in the memory 17 and at finishing drive it is deleted, so that positional data is judged to be correct or not according to this information.
