PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a filter cloth excellent in liquid permeability, fine particle catching properties, shape holding properties, and durability by a method in which crimped monofilaments are formed in a filter layer and fixed to a base layer, and the crimp ratio of the monofilaments and the elongation of the filter cloth are specified respectively. SOLUTION: A filter layer 2 is formed from crimped monofilaments 1, which are woven into a base layer 3 of fabric to be fixed. Fluid such as water is supplied in the direction A and filtered. The monofilaments 1, owing to being crimped, can have proper clearances to catch fine particles and simultaneously keep fluid permeability. The crimp ratio of the monofilaments is set up at 2-45% so that spaces between the monofilaments are kept properly to improve fine particle catching properties. In order to prevent the deformation of a filter cloth when strong tension is applied to the filter cloth, the elongation of the filter cloth is set up at 10% or below.
