摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an internal combustion engine from becoming hard to be placed on a vehicle even if a pump such as a high pressure fuel pump is incorporated in the vertically mounted internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: In this drive mechanism, a pump cam 52 is installed in a shaft area between the journal bearings arranged in the 6th cylinder positioned at the most rear section and the 5th cylinder adjacent to the 6th cylinder in a exhaust cam shaft 28. Therefore, the pump cam 52 can be supported withstanding to the pressure received from the side of a high pressure fuel pump 50 without extending the rear end of the cam shaft 28 and newly providing a journal bearing. In addition, the high pressure fuel pump 50 can be arranged in a cylinder head cover in conformance with the height of an engine hood becoming higher toward the rear section of an engine room. This prevents deterioration of a vehicle mounting property.
