PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently assemble an oil seal by forming a cutout-like step part over the whole circumference of a metal reinforcing ring of the oil seal in the top surface of the peripheral end thereof so as to form a seal member installation part, and making a caulking end of an outer cylinder abut on the top flat surface of the metal reinforcing ring. SOLUTION: An upper part of a rod guide 2 is formed into an annular step part 15 having a cutout flat surface in the inner peripheral side thereof and having a height corresponding to the thickness of a metal reinforcing ring 5. A cutout step part 16 is formed over the whole circumference of the metal reinforcing ring 5 at an atmospheric air side of the peripheral end thereof so as to form a seal member installation part B. The metal reinforcing ring 5 is placed on the flat annular step part 15, and an upper end of the outer cylinder 1 is folded for caulking. With this structure, since the top surface of the metal reinforcing ring 5 and the upper end of the rod guide 2 are formed in the same surface, when the end of the outer cylinder 1 is caulked, a tip of the outer cylinder 1 abuts on a surface of the metal reinforcing ring 5 so as to pressurize the rubber seal member 18 with the nearly constant pressure, and sealing performance is improved. |
