PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To industrially advantageously produce a statin-based compound having an inhibitory activity against cholesterol biosynthesis by a method having extremely improved productivity. SOLUTION: A fungus capable of producing a statin-based compound derived from a filamentous fungus is cultured in a medium containing a carboxylic acid, its derivative or its salt to produce the statin-based compound. The statin- based compound is recovered from the cultured product to produce the statin- based compound.
