PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress exhaust of black smoke under abrupt acceleration without deteriorating motive power performance of a diesel engine. SOLUTION: This diesel engine 1 has a rotation sensor 6 which outputs a signal in response to rotational speed of the engine 1 and an acceleration sensor 7 which outputs a signal in response to an accelerator opening. A reference injection amount is calculated based on the present engine speed and the accelerator opening obtained from the input of the signals of the sensors 6, 7. A transient injection amount is calculated based on the present engine speed and its variation rate. Both injection amounts are compared with each other. In response to less injection amount, a control signal is output to a fuel injection device 4 by means of a control unit 5. It is thus possible to suppress a fuel injection amount under loadless abrupt acceleration and prevent generation of black smoke.
