PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain products superior in surface luster, of such a cold-rolled steel sheet as a stainless steel, etc., and such metallic sheets as a pure-titanium sheet and a titanium alloy sheet, without deteriorating productivity or encountering working difficulty. SOLUTION: On the surface of this roll with 200 mm or less diameter, regular geometrical pattern consisting of multiple pieces of one or two or more types of polygon of hexagon or less and continuous grooves to surround them is formed. The surface roughness within the polygon is less than Ra 0.1μm, the longer diameter of the polygon is 0.01 times or more but 0.1 times or less the contact arc length of the rolled material, the groove depth is 0.3μm or more but 4μm or less, and the groove width is 0.01 times or more but 0.2 times or less the longer diameter of the polygon. With a rolling mill using the aforementioned roll as a work roll, a strip metal is rolled using rolling mill lubricant. By cold-rolling the metal in the aforementioned method, the geometrical pattern of the aforementioned roll is transferred onto both surface or one surface.
