PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rib assembly for a foldable umbrella which makes the folded volume very small by suiting it as folded umbrella so small to be held in a pocket. SOLUTION: When a rib assembly is folded to close an umbrella, a flat and thin end part 212 and a flat and thin end part 213 at an internal hook end part 251 and a top rib 21 of an intermediate link rib 25 is accepted precisely into a U-shaped groove of an expanded rib 22. This can minimize the folded volume of a foldable umbrella suited to contain in a pocket.
