PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an exhaust brake function safely and securely, by operating the exhaust brake after confirming the cutoff of the fuel feeding to a fuel leading-in part, and securing the necessary suction air amount. SOLUTION: In the exhaust brake device of an Otto cycle engine, an O2 sensor 26 (a fuel cutoff confirming means) which can detect that the fuel feeding to a gas mixer 10 (fuel leading-in part) is cut off, and a pressure sensor 27 (a suction air amount confirming means) which can detect that a sufficient amount of suction air to obtain a braking force is secured, are provided. In this case, the system is composed so that the bypass valve 12 of a bypass passage 11 is operated to open, by confirming the cutoff of the fuel feeding by the O2 sensor 26, and after the opening operation of the bypass valve 12, the securing of the necessary suction air amount is confirmed by the pressure sensor 27, and then, the exhaust valve 9 of an exhaust pipe 5 is operated to be closed.
