PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the manufacture of a valve lifter and lighten the valve lifter. SOLUTION: A cylindrical member 12 slidably fitted in the guide hole of a cylinder head and a thin circular plate member 14 interposed between an intake/exhaust valve and the driving system of the intake/exhaust valve are formed separately from each other. A retainer 22 for restricting the rotation of the circular plate member 14 is fitted through the cylindrical member 12 to a boss part 16 projected from the shaft center part of the circular palte member 14 to an axial direction. The opening end part of the cylindrical member 12 and the periphery of the circular plate member 14 which are arranged coaxially are relatively rotated around a shaft while being brought into pressure contact with each other and are frictionally welded each other.
