PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the damage of a fan case and a support structure in the breakage of a fan blade by determining a radial mutual interference zone having a boundary determined on the outside by the surface of the hard metal of the fan case, and arranging a hardened liner in this zone. SOLUTION: An axial turbo fan gas turbine engine 10 comprises a fan section 14, a compressor section 16, a combustor section 18, and a turbine section 20 which are coaxially arranged. The fan section 14 has a stator assembly 27 and a rotor assembly 28. The stator assembly 27 has a fan containment case assembly 30 for forming the outside wall of a secondary passage 24. In this case, a segmented fan case liner consisting of a hardened material is arranged in the mutual interference zone to which the outer edge of a rotor blade 34 opposes within the assembly 30 to improve the reliability in the damage of the rotor blade.
