PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeder capable of preventing generation of abnormal sound and paper creases even in the case of shortening a distance of a paper feeding roller and a carrier roller. SOLUTION: A carrier roller 7B arranged on the downstream side of a paper feeding roller 6A to pick up sheets 1 one by one is constituted of such a roller as to make relations of roller width Lh of the carrier roller 7B, roller width Lr of the paper feeding roller 6A and the minimum width Lp of the sheet 1 free to feed to Lp>Lh>Lr, the carrier roller 7B is made pressure contact with both end parts of this carrier roller 7B, and the sheets are carried by these carrier roller 7B and carrier roller 7B. Additionally, a space S through which a central part of the sheets 1 passes is formed by a central part of the carrier roller 7B not to make contact with the carrier roller 7B and a guide member 17 arranged against the carrier roller 7B, and creases on a central part of a head end of the sheet made at the time of picking up one each of sheets are restrained when the sheets pass through this space S.
