PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cosmetic material such as a foundation and the likes without sticky feeling during and after applying it and excellent in durability of moisture-retaining effects and cosmetic effects. SOLUTION: This cosmetic material contains a pigment, the surface of which is coated with water soluble glucomannan. The coated pigment has 5-40μm volume-average particle size measured by a dry type size distribution measuring device using laser. The amount of the water soluble glucomannan is preferably 0.1-5 wt.% based on the weight of the pigment. The amount of the coated pigment to be blended in the cosmetic material is preferably 0.1-99% based on the whole amount of the cosmetic material. The objective coated pigment is obtained by dissolving water soluble glucomannan in purified water, mixing the pigment with the aqueous solution, agitating the mixture to disperse the pigment, drying and pulverizing the mixture by a heating and drying method, etc.
